3 Days Nyiragongo Hike from Kigali: This is a 3 days hiking safari to Mount Nyiragongo located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These 3 days Nyiragongo Hike will start from Kigali city in Rwanda. Visitors will be picked up from Kigali International Airport upon arrival. You will then embark on a short tour of Kigali City and drive to the Grand Barrier where you will cross into Goma. Mount Nyiragongo gained a lot of fame among tourists because of its molten lava lake which always lit the night sky red, leaving many mesmerized by the beautiful scenery. Ascending Mount Nyiragongo in Congo can take between 5 to 6 hours with a night spent at the wooden shelters that have been constructed on the mountain. Mount Nyiragongo stands at an elevation of 3,470 meters above sea leave, making it one of the tallest mountains in the Albertine Rift.
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and Transfer to Goma.
Pickup & Transfer to Goma: Your guide will pick you up from the airport or any other agreed place of pick up in Kigali and depending on time, go for a short tour of Kigali city that includes a visit to Kimironko market and the genocide memorial. Have lunch and cross to Goma after Congo boarder where you will check in at the tourism boarder at the Grand Barrier to get a volcano permit thereafter transfer to your hotel where you will relax for the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Linda
Day 2: Ascend Mount Nyiragongo
Ascend Mount Nyiragongo: Have your guide pick up from your hotel in Gisenyi town and drive to the Congo border at Le Grand Barrier by 7am. Check-in at the immigrations office and receive your Congo Visa and hiking permit. After you are done clearing with immigrations, you will be transported to Kibati Patrol Post in Virunga national park.
This is where you will begin your hike from after a briefing from the park ranger. You can also hire some porters from this point to carry your luggage. Hiking up the mountain can take about four to six hours depending on your experience and pace. Spend the night on the mountain under the red lit skyline, and on a good night you can clearly watch the beautiful stars in the sky.
Dinner and accommodation will at the shelters that have been built on the mountain.
Day 2: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and Departure.
Descend & Departure: Wake up to a beautiful morning on the mountain. Take delicious breakfast and hike up to the Crater Lake with molten lava. The sight of the molten lava bumbling from the active volcano is truly a marvelous sight to see. Later start to descend Nyiragongo Mountain. The hiking expedition down the mountain will take about 4 hours or less depending on your pace. You will meet with your guide once you have descended the mountain, and then proceed with your transfer back to Goma with a drop off at La Grande Barrière. End of Tour.
