Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to the Gisenyi-Congo border
On day 1 of the 4 Days Gorilla Trekking in Virunga and Mount Nyiragongo Hike, at a location of your choice in Kigali city, you will be picked by your guide on your agreed location to welcome you and embark on your drive to cross into Congo to Goma. On reaching Goma, you will check into the tourism office at the Grand Barrier Border Post to receive your Gorilla trekking permit in Congo and Mount Nyiragongo hike permit that’s to be presented at the beginning of the trek. After receiving your permits, you will transfer to the Kibumba tented camp just near the trailhead of Mount Nyiragongo.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park
Wake up early, have breakfast, then report to Bukima patrol where you will then present your passport and the different permit details for registration and briefing. After the briefing session, you will head into the forest with your ranger guide and expect to hike between 2-3 hours to set off to find the mountain Gorillas in Virunga National Park. When you get to the mountain gorillas, when you get to the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to watch the species and their different features for a memorable safari experience. You will be allowed an hour with the gorillas as they go about their daily activities in the wild for a memorable experience
Day 3: Nyiragongo Hike
Prepare for early morning breakfast as you are expected at the headquarters by 8 am. On reaching the starting point, you will then embark on your Mount Nyiragongo hike to the summit where you will watch the boiling lava. After the experience, get to your campsite where you will have dinner and overnight stay.
Please note that your Rwanda Visa will expire after crossing into Congo so you will apply for
another immediately and you will find it ready on return.
Day 4: Descend Nyiragongo and transfer back to Kigali
After your Mount Nyiragongo hike, you will descend the mountain by 11:00 am where you will then connect to your driver who will then transfer you back to Kigali city the end of your safari experience and if you have time, you can participate in the Kigali city tour where you will visit a number of different sites like the Kigali genocide memorial museum, kimironko market for a rewarding Rwanda safari.
