Canopy walk Adventure in Nyungwe Forest National Park : If you’re looking for a truly unique and exhilarating adventure, look no further than the Nyungwe Forest in Rwanda. The forest is a massive protected area that spans over 1,600 square kilometers and is home to an impressive array of wildlife and beautiful plants. Although there are many hiking trails scattered throughout the park, the most popular destination is the Canopy Walk. The canopy walking trail is 60m above from the woodland ground and 100 meters in length. The canopy is made with three segments however, the center one is the highest level. In the center one, you can’t see the ground, here you are free to test how valiant you are.

The Nyungwe Forest is one of the most impressive forests in Africa and it is considered to be the home of Rwanda’s ‘Big Five’ – endangered animals that include gorillas, elephants, leopards, lions, and rhinos. During the Canopy Walk you will see many of these animals and it is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Another fascinating attraction in the park is “Hanging Lake” which is made up of five connected lakes. These lakes are connected by natural caves and they are surrounded by stunning scenery. The water in the lake is constantly moving and it reflects the beautiful colours of the trees and the mountains in the distance.
Highlights of the Nyungwe Forest canopy walk
The first challenge you face on the Canopy Walk is crossing the Nyungwe River! At the river you will climb into a canoe and be taken to the start of the walk, which is a beautiful waterfall overlooking the river. From here you begin your ascent into the forest as you walk along a series of suspension bridges. Each bridge offers a unique view of the rainforest as you pass from one platform to the next. There are also two resting points along the way where you can rest and enjoy the view from the observation deck. As you continue on your journey you will reach another waterfall and you will continue climbing through the forest until you reach the last platform and the end of the walk. Once you are back on the ground you can go for a refreshing swim in the pool below the waterfall or you can take a nature walk through the forest and see some of the other sights in the forest. You will also have the opportunity to visit Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which is the home to the mountain gorillas.
