Amahoro family
Amahoro gorilla family is the most peaceful gorilla family in Rwanda which is the reason for the name Amahoro which means peace given the fact that it is quite a peaceful in nature which has helped tourists interested in visiting a very calm gorilla family the gorilla family is headed by Ubumwe which means togetherness because he is quite a team leader that has ensured that the gorillas are quite safe from both internal and external attacks
Sabyinyo family
The sabyinyo gorilla family in Rwanda is one of the most rewarding family that you will enjoy visiting not because of the fact that it is the easiest gorilla family that can be tracked along the Virunga mountains in Rwanda but also the fact that it’s dominant silver back Guhonda who is the heaviest and the tallest gorilla among the mountain gorillas in Rwanda who has protected its gorilla family from internal and external attacks making it one of the most peaceful gorilla families in the park
Hirwa group
Just like the Ugenda gorilla group, the hirwa gorilla group is quite mobile whereby sometimes it can be seen in volcanoes national park and the other times in Mgahinga national park and this gorilla family was formed by members from the Susa and sabyinyo gorilla families. It should be noted when gorilla get older, they can leave their natal homes and start their own gorilla families this is because the dominant silver back has all the mating rights with the adult females of the group.
The gorilla family is one of the interesting Rwanda gorilla families that can be seen in Volcanoes national park. It was formed after some members from the Susa and sabyinyo gorilla family left the groups to make their own group the Hirwa gorilla family which is a very mobile group.
It is located along Mount Sabyinyo and it comprises of 16 members and it is also among the few Rwanda gorilla families that was able to bare twins. However, it should be noted that the gorilla family migrated from volcanoes national park to Mgahinga national park in Uganda.
Ugenda family
Among the gorilla families in Rwanda, the Ugenda gorilla family is one of the hardest gorilla family to track because it’s always on the move whereby it can be seen in Mgahinga national park and sometimes in volcanoes national park which is the reason it was named Ugenda meaning it is always on the move looking for food and better living conditions. However once a tourist gets to the gorilla family they will have memorable experiences spending time observing their behaviour in the wild and their social hierarchy.
Kwitonda group
Kwitonda gorilla family was named after its silver back Kwitonda who died after falling sick but interesting about the gorilla is the fact that he would let other gorillas mate with the females of the group which is quite unusual among the gorillas because it’s only the dominant male that has all the mating rights with the gorillas in the family. Although the dominant male died, the group is among the most peaceful gorilla families in Rwanda this and other gorilla families that you can choose to visit at any given time of the day fro the most rewarding gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda.
