There are many different festivals in Rwanda each year which give you a chance to experience the unique culture of the country.


There is a large population of water birds at Gowanda Beach (Gisenyi) in particular species such as the cormorant, kingfisher, white heron as well as a great variety of waders. There is a good diversity of bird life even as far as the beach goes including the Grey-Headed Gull, the Pied Kingfisher and the White-backed Duck.


-The Belgian Peace Trail goes from Bugesera to Kibuye with splendid views all the way. Hiking along the trail is very popular among locals and visitors alike as it is a relaxing way to enjoy the scenery. You can also walk or cycle along the lake from Gisenyi to Kibuye.


The area around Gisenyi has plenty of accommodation options ranging from simple hotels and guesthouses to luxury villas and resort hotels. There are also plenty of guest houses located along the beach offering visitors easy access to Gisenyi and the beach such as Resort Gaba which is about a 20-minute drive from the city centre and lies right on the beach.
