RWANDA REOPENS BORDER WITH UGANDA /GATUNA BORDER
Rwanda Reopens Border with Uganda : As of today the Gatuna Rwanda border with Uganda has been opened after three years of being closed because of a number of reasons. There are a number reasons that led to the closer of the border which affected the crossings of people from one side to the other and this was because of a number reasons among which included the tensions between the two countries each of them accusing the other for a number of problems they were facing, the government of Rwanda was accusing the Ugandan government for supporting rebel groups to topple the government of Rwanda and Uganda accused Rwanda of spying on the country to gain their military information which led to tensions between the two countries and in the long run it led to the closure of the border and this led to a standstill to a number of activities.
On Friday 27th 2022, with the meeting between Rwanda and Uganda with the representation of Uganda by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba the commander of the land forces of the Uganda people’s defence force with a letter that is believed to having been written by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the president of Uganda as a way to come together and resolves issues that led to the closure of the border with Uganda. It should be noted that Rwanda and Uganda have two land borders cyanika and Gatuna also known as the Katuna/ Gatuna border which were both closed.
With the opening of the Gatuna border, there’s hope that the cyanika border will also be opened which was closed because of the covid-19 global pandemic which led to the loss of a number of lives in the lives and the need to stop the importation of new cases of covid-19 to the country however with the re-opening of Gatuna border it shows that the cyanika The minister f foreign affairs in Rwanda also made a statement that other borders are still under proper observation and investigation on how to properly manage the and limit the spread of the virus in the country.
The fate of tourism in Uganda and Rwanda with the border opening
